Alter Servers, men & women, boys & girls, assist the priest in celebrating the mass with devotion and respect.
Altar servers perform most of the functions of the former “minor order” of ordained clerics known as acolytes from the Greek word akolouthos or ‘attendant’. Church writings from the second and third centuries discuss the role of acolytes, giving the office great importance and honor in the history of the Church. Altar servers today are not ordained, but are ‘commissioned’ by their parish priest.
The primary role of the altar server is to assist the priest in the celebration of the liturgy during Mass. This is done through specific actions and by setting an example to the congregation by active participation in the liturgy (hymns, responses, etc.), by looking alert and sitting or standing at the appropriate times.
Servers carry the cross, the processional candle(s), hold the book for the priest celebrant when he is not at the altar, carry the incense and censer, present the bread, wine, and water to the priest during the preparation of the gifts or assist him when he receives the gifts from the people, wash the hands of the priest, assist the priest celebrant and deacon as necessary, with the exception of distributing the Holy Eucharist.

Divine Mercy Parish's Bereavement Ministry exists to support parishioners and friends who lose loved ones through death. We seek to provide comfort, consolation and support to family members during these difficult times.
Upon being informed of the death of a parishioner or former parishioner, the Bereavement Ministry coordinator contacts the deceased’s nearest of kin or family representative. The grieving family are assisted in the planning of the funeral liturgy, The Mass of Christian Burial. Appropriate Scripture readings and liturgical songs are suggested. Our goal is to help make this significant liturgy as personal as possible for the mourners. We work within the guidelines and directives of the Diocese of Worcester concerning Funeral Liturgies.
At the funeral Mass, members of the Bereavement Ministry team serve as acolytes, lectors and cross bearer. Our entire Bereavement Ministry team is made up of dedicated volunteers. Family members and friends are encouraged to take an active part in the liturgy. Mr. Philip Dunlavey serves as the ministry’s coordinator.
Divine Mercy's Bereavement Ministry is always seeking volunteers to assist us at this delicate time in our parishioners’ lives. Proper training and instruction are provided. If you are interested, please fill out the volunteer form below.

The lector is the person who, in speaking clearly and passionately, brings the first part of the Mass, “The Liturgy of the Word” to life for all to hear. “When the Sacred Scriptures are read in the Church, God himself speaks to his people, and Christ, present in his word, proclaims the Gospel. Therefore, the readings from the Word of God are to be listened to reverently by everyone, for they are an element of the greatest importance in the Liturgy.” (www.usb.org)

Adults who come to our parish doors saying, “I want to be Catholic or I want to be confirmed and receive first Eucharist ,” are indeed seeking something.
All that is required is a sincere desire to learn, to grow, and to develop one’s relationship with God.
The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is design to welcome new members or returning Catholics into the church and at the same time deepen and renew the faith of the entire church community. This process includes several stages marked by prayer, study, and discussion. It is a process rather than an educational program.

In January we started a discussion of a parish wide craft fair the three days after Thanksgiving. We find that a chairperson is needed to organize this event. If you are able to organize and oversee this craft fair, please call the office and leave your contact information.
We do have volunteers already creating items for the event so we pray, with your help, we will be able to hold this event.
If a volunteer cannot be found by August 30th, the craft fair will have to be put off for another time.
